Our Story

Our
Story
In 1959, Jim Mac Eoin, a Limerick City native, moved with his family from Carlingford, Co. Louth to Townshend Street, Skibbereen, Co. Cork. He started beekeeping in his back garden under the apple trees. His passion and enthusiasm for his hobby inspired his son Gearoid to follow in his footsteps and turn a hobby into a business. That business has been supplying the people of West Cork and Ireland with honey, equipment and advice for nearly 50 years. Now, along with his own children, Gearoid wants to inspire as many people as he can to become beekeepers themselves.
The Next Generation
A proud 2025 graduate of Munster Technological University, Ger holds a degree in Structural Engineering and brings with him a passion for innovation, sustainability, and community. He has been working at the family business part time while at his studies but he is now returning home to base himself full-time in Creagh, at the heart of the family business.
Ger represents the next generation of leadership with a vision rooted in tradition and driven by progress.
Ger’s energy, fresh perspective, and deep-rooted connection to his community make him a powerful force for good in rural enterprise. As he steps into this new chapter, he’s committed to growing Mac Eoin Honey Farms not just as a business, but as a cornerstone of the local economy, one that stands strong for generations to come.
